Dynamic identification of structures is established science. Continuous monitoring has existed for decades on major infrastructure. What is missing is a system that makes economic sense on a residential block, a school, a warehouse. SKAB exists to lower that threshold.

Sensor cost has collapsed

MEMS accelerometers with noise performance adequate for modal analysis on buildings are now available at a fraction of traditional seismometric instrumentation, with sufficient characteristics for the band of interest.

Computation is a commodity

Modal processing, once costly and manual, can now run automatically and repeatedly in the cloud across many buildings in parallel, at a very low marginal cost per analysis.

Demand has grown

Seismic sequences, bradyseismic phenomena and heightened risk awareness have moved the topic to the centre of the agenda for public bodies, asset managers and owners.

How it generates revenue

Free entry point

Building cataloguing and preliminary theoretical estimate of natural modes, accessible without hardware. Builds the catalogue and qualifies demand.

Hardware

Supply and installation of stations, two to three per building depending on geometry and monitoring objectives.

Recurring service

Monitoring subscription: connectivity, processing, data retention, reporting and alerting. This is the component that compounds value over time.

Structural engineering practices interested in validating methodology and thresholds on real cases, and in using the platform as a measurement instrument within their own commissions. This is the collaboration that matters most to us: structural competence must sit alongside the technology, not inside it.

Transparency

What is not solved yet

We prefer to state this upfront. Anyone assessing a project wants to know its limits, not only its strengths.

  • Threshold validation on the Italian building stock. Frequency-shift ranges associated with damage levels come from literature on reinforced concrete buildings in other contexts. Applicability to Italian historic masonry requires a dedicated validation campaign, which is among our priorities.
  • Sensitivity to environmental conditions. Natural frequencies vary with temperature, humidity and excitation level. Normalising these effects is an open technical problem under continuous refinement.
  • Declared scope. The system does not and will not issue occupancy or safety judgements. This deliberately narrows the commercial promise, but it is the only position that is defensible technically and in terms of liability.
  • Industrialisation. Current stations are built in-house. Moving to series production is a stage to be addressed with suitable partners.
